WEST MAUI

FRONT STREET (Lahaina)

Maui Shopping - Front StreetHistory

No Maui shopping trip would be complete without a stop at historic and scenic Front Street. Now lined with boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and ice cream parlors, this area is steeped in stories of the past. Between the Old Lahaina Courthouse, Brick Palace of Kamehameha I, a nearly 150-year-old landmark Banyan Tree and more, a shopping trip on Front Street can be a walk back in time. Now, we know we lured you to this post with the promise of shopping – we’ll get to shortly. But this is an important side note. Before or after your West Maui shopping excursion, we highly recommend taking a guided or self-guided Lahaina tour so you don’t miss the richness this area offers.

Shopping

Alright, onto the shops! On Front Street, you’ll find everything from your favorite brand-named surf shops to local boutiques like Maui Pineapple Store. There are also tons of places to pick up Maui souvenirs – from keychains to tee shirts to Christmas ornaments, you’ll find something for everyone on your list. While you’re out on the town, don’t forget to appreciate the view and keep your eyes open for whales during whale season (roughly Dec. till May).

Let’s Eat!

After you work up an appetite, make sure to enjoy one of many restaurants along this strip. We are fans of Belle Surf Café for breakfast or an afternoon coffee, Honu Seafood and Pizza and Mala Tavern for lunch or dinner and Fleetwood’s on Front Street for Happy Hour or dinner (request rooftop seats!).

OUTLETS OF MAUI (Lahaina)

Looking for deals on designer goods mixed with some ocean views? Look no further than the Outlets of Maui, located right off of Front Street in Lahaina. From well-known names like Tommy Bahama and Coach to local faves like Hilo Hattie Outlet, Maui Sunglass Maui Jim and Maui Divers Jewelry, Outlets of Maui features some great shopping options at great prices. It even includes the popular Warren & Annabelle’s Magic Show, has its own restaurants and offers weekly ukulele lessons through Maui Music Mission!

WHALERS VILLAGE (Ka’anapali)

Let’s head a little further down the road to Ka’anapali. Nestled among some of Maui’s finest resorts and adjacent to world famous Ka’anapali Beach, Whalers Village offers a premier shopping experience. This outdoor Maui mall features luxe designers like Louis Vuitton, lifestyle names like Lilly Pulitzer, Lululemon and Olukai & local brands like one of our personal favorites, home retailer, Soha Living. Whalers Village also is home to destination restaurants like Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman and Leilani’s on the Beach. Just need a snack? We strongly suggest trying Maui Cookie Lab for some of the best cookies you’ve ever had!

PAIA

Paia, Maui ShoppingFor a completely different shopping adventure, check out Paia, a cute surf town with hippie vibes on the North Shore. Here, colorful storefronts line the streets and are home to locally-owned boutiques, restaurants, the famed Mana Foods natural grocery store and frozen treats. We love Wings Hawaii, Lilikoi, The Shoppe by Hale Zen and the Acacia Flagship. We are also fans of the restaurant choices here. While you can’t go wrong with any of them, we frequent Flatbread and Café des Amis. Lastly, don’t leave Paia without trying ice cream from Artisan Ice Cream, which offers both delicious dairy & vegan options.

UPCOUNTRY

BALDWIN AVE. (Makawao)

Maui Shopping - Makawao Baldwin Ave.A short drive from the hustle and bustle of Paia, you’ll find the darling paniolo (cowboy) town of Makawao. With a hitching post to boot, Baldwin Ave. in sweet Makawao offers a more relaxed shopping environment than some of the other areas. It is also hands-down one of our top picks for shopping on Maui. Check out boutiques including Holoholo Surf, Designing Wahine, The Monarch Collective, Tribe Maui, Driftwood and more. Or take a lei-making class or purchase fresh lei at Haku Maui. If you’re there in the morning don’t miss the famous stick donuts at the iconic Komoda’s Bakery. For dinner, Casanova’s Italian Restaurant is a charming must-visit.

HUI NO’EAU VISUAL ARTS CENTER (Makawao)

On the hunt for one-of-a-kind, handmade on Maui souvenirs or gifts? Swing by The Gallery Shop at Kaluanui at Hui No’eau Visual Arts Centers in Makawao, not too far from the Baldwin Ave. shops. Set on a stunning estate, this store features the handcrafted work of more than 75 Maui artisans! Think ceramics, jewelry and more. Plus, each purchase not only supports local artists, but also the Hui, which offers a plethora of community art classes for all ages throughout the year.

SOUTH MAUI

THE SHOPS AT WAILEA (Wailea)

Staying in South Maui? There are plenty of places to shop, like The Shops at Wailea. Conveniently located near some of the island’s most luxurious resorts, this recently renovated retail destination offers more than 70 shops. The directory includes some of the world’s most sought-after, high fashion designers like Prada and Louis Vuitton, to local stores like Mahina, Mele Ukulele and Keliki Hawaii. A fun and meaningful bonus? The Shops at Wailea hosts weekly cultural events like lei po’o making, coconut frond weaving, papa hula and more. Make sure to check the schedule for up-to-the-minute class offerings. Lastly, The Shops at Wailea is also a culinary destination. For a mid-shopping fuel up, we recommend The Pint & Cork.

WAILEA VILLAGE (Wailea)

Located on the Wailea hillside, just up the street from The Shops at Wailea, sits Wailea Village. This small, but mighty shopping area is one of the island’s newest. Swing by Akamai Coffee for your caffeine fix and then check out Hue Home + Design, Droplets (a sweet children’s shop), Paper Garden, Sabado Studios and more. Don’t forget to peek at Wailea Village’s website for upcoming events like their popular Farmer’s Market and Sunset Market.

CENTRAL MAUI

MAIN STREET (Wailuku)

Now, let’s visit Central Maui! Beautiful, mural-lined Main Street in historic Wailuku, offers some unique shops. We recommend swinging by Wailuku Coffee Company for a latte and maybe a pastry (or if you’re like Brandon, the breakfast burrito) to start. Then, check out Native Intelligence, a retail destination that celebrates and perpetuates the Hawaiian culture with handmade, artisan merchandise. From papale to jewelry to music, there is something for everyone. Other fun stores to check out? We like Request Music for their selection of island vinyl. If you find yourself in Wailuku around lunch or dinner time, don’t miss Farmacy, Umi Sushi and SixtyTwo Marcket!

QUEEN KA’AHUMANU CENTER (Kahului)

For our last stop, no Maui shopping guide would be complete without Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului. It’s the island’s largest shopping center with over 100 stores, including many popular household name retailers like Victoria’s Secret. Home to the only department store on the island, Macy’s, the Center also offers a movie theater and entertainment throughout the year.
