To us, dessert is the cherry on top of a great day! Luckily, Kihei has several places we think you’ll find to be the icing on your cake… From iconic shave ice to freshly baked pies and French macarons, here are our favorite sugar fixes in Kihei.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice

Shave ice is one of the most sought after desserts in Hawaii. And Ululani’s is the home of one of Maui’s most popular shave ices. They have six locations around the island but we’re lucky enough that the Kihei stand is right down the road from our THERE Maui House. There’s almost always a long line, but we promise it’s worth the wait. Ululani’s has the creamiest ice we’ve ever tasted. Plus they use juice made from 100% sugar cane and natural purees. Additional shave ice “dressing” options include locally made Roselani ice cream (get a scoop as a base!), snowcaps, haupia (Hawaiian for coconut) cream, locally made fresh mochi from Maui Specialty Chocolates and Azuki beans. If all of that sounds overwhelming, fear not. They’ll walk you through the process and you’ll end up with a dessert you’ll crave over and over again, especially on Maui’s hottest days.

Maui Pie Shop

Let’s put it this way, friends and co-workers have specifically asked us if we could pick up Maui Pie for them since it’s delicious and located very close to our THERE Maui House. It’s just THAT good! They sell their pies by the slice, as mini pies (6’) and as full-size pies (9’). They offer many flavor options including classic flavors like Apple, but also signature flavors like Mango Strawberry, Raspberry Peach and Coconut Cream. We find it’s perfect as an after-dinner treat for the whole family or grab a bunch of different slices and taste the variety!

Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade

Acai bowls, smoothies & lemonade, oh my! Or should we say – wow! Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade has hands down the best lemonade we’ve ever tasted. They offer lemonade flavors like Lavender Blackberry, Strawberry Mint and Watermelon Basil. They also serve up a variety of delicious açaí bowls and smoothies like the classic No Ka Oi Acai Bowl with organic granola, banana, strawberry, blueberry, bee pollen and local honey and the Sunrise Smoothie with pineapple, banana, organic strawberry & coconut water. Open until 4pm daily (and you guessed it, close to our THERE Maui House!), Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade is a great stop for a refreshing afternoon treat!

Fabiani’s

You know the type of place where you visit so often, you start to befriend the staff? Well, Fabiani’s is that type of place. Their bakery offers a wide variety of treats, especially during holidays, but Brandon and I usually stick to the French macarons and coconut macaroons. The French macarons are offered in a wide variety of flavors including their long-standing signature, Salted Caramel (our fave!). They also offer seasonal flavors like pumpkin, peppermint, s’mores and more! Great treat to pick up on your way home to enjoy with company (or while you watch Netflix in bed – no judgement here!).

Gus’s Hawaiian Shave Ice

In our opinions, you can never have enough shave ice! And total bonus points that Gus is actually a vintage VW split window bus! (Relevant side note: we are huge VW bus fans and have two baywindow buses of our own). Anyway, they are typically open in South Kihei until 8pm and it’s a great place to grab a cool treat and cute picture!

For exact location (as this can change), follow Gus on Instagram at @gushawaiianshaveice.
