e’re not kidding – Maui Goat Yoga is a real thing and it’s awesome! Goat yoga seems to be sweeping the country, maybe even the world, as a therapeutic activity that helps you clear your mind while going with the flow. How can you be in your head when a goat is downward dogging on your mat, right?! Well, Maui has fully embraced the craze and we had to see what all the hype was about. Brandon and I easily convinced my sister, Leigh Anne, and brother-in-law, Danny, to try it with us and… it was a HUGE success!

Here’s what to know before you go:

Location: Maui Goat Yoga is located Upcountry in beautiful Kula just a few neighborhoods away from the landmark Grandma’s Coffee House. The class takes place outside with gorgeous panoramic views of the island and ocean. Go early for a coveted spot in the shade.

When: Maui Goat Yoga is held Tuesday – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.; a special sunset class with live music is held every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

About the Experience: Maui Goat Yoga begins with about 10 minutes of goat familiarization. During this part, you’ll learn about the cute goats all around you. Next, a 45-minute yoga class begins. We found this to be perfect for many abilities. Maui Goat Yoga concludes with what they call “Maui Goat Happy Hour” – a.k.a. playtime! This is when you can let loose, whip out the camera and shamelessly get those goat selfies!

What to Expect: We found that this experience will be most enjoyed by animal lovers who don’t mind getting a little dirty. We actually stayed pretty clean but it’s important to note that the adorable goats are not trained “house pets,” meaning you never know when they may need to use the bathroom. They also may nibble on your clothes or hair. To us, the unpredictability of the cuddly goats just made the day even more fun and we found ourselves laughing constantly. If you’re looking for a great story, we’re certain this place will help you create one!

What to Bring & Wear: We recommend wearing athletic clothes that you wouldn’t mind a goat nibbling on. Bring sunscreen, especially if you don’t plan on arriving early, as there is only one area that’s shaded. Also, bring water and your own mat if you like. They also have yoga mats available to rent for a small fee. Oh, and don’t forget your camera!

Other Things to Do Upcountry: Make a day of your time Upcountry! You might consider seeing the sunrise at Haleakala Summit (reservations required) before Maui Goat Yoga and/or bringing a change of clothes and enjoying brunch at the nearby Grandma’s Coffee House after the morning yoga class. Visiting Maui’s farms such as Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm or Surfing Goat Dairy are also great choices to add to your Maui Goat Yoga experience day.

Lastly, it’s important to make Maui Goat Yoga reservations in advance, as they don’t take walk-ins. For more information or to book, visit @mauigoatyoga on Instagram.

Special Note: As of April 2020, Maui Goat Yoga is not currently operating due to COVID-19. To share some aloha with the goats, please consider visiting their Go Fund Me page. Donations will go towards feeding the goats until classes resume.
